Headset Information

Headsets are permitted for use by referees in AHSAA Volleyball officiating, and about 1/3 of our MCVBOA officials use them regularly.

EJEAS and Maxquall are the same devices with different branding. You may also see them branded as GaiRen. The V4 line supports connecting up to 4 people. The V6 line supports connecting only 2 people.

None of these devices are super easy to use or very high quality. The manuals are barely readable and they are not intuitive to setup. They are primarily designed for motorcyclists, but have been adapted for use by sports officials. For the most part, you can not use a 3rd party ear piece. You are limited to a selection of ear pieces made for them.

(Much) more expensive options exist, like the Yapalong, Axiwi, Portaphone, and Vokkero. But for the price, EJEAS/Maxquall is the most popular among high school officials. They do work, fairly reliably, and with good battery life.
